Lee McAllister has apologised to his fans and television viewers for his performance in defending his Commonwealth lightweight title against Samuel Amoako on Friday night.
The 'Aberdeen Assassin' was appearing live on Sky for the first time in Glasgow's Bellahouston Leisure Centre and was desperate to impress against the Ghanaian.
However, despite also being cheered on by hundreds of fans who had travelled down from the Granite City, the 27-year-old made hard work of the 12 rounds before coming through with a 116-112, 117-112, 117-112 victory on the judges scorecards.
McAllister was brutally honest in his assessment - but struggled to explain it.
"On behalf of the paying public and the viewers at home, I would like to apologise for my performance on Friday night," he said.
"The 'Aberdeen Assassin' wasn't at his best. That was not five per cent of Lee McAllister, I was very disappointed.
"There was no snap and it was flat but I have no excuses. I was fit, ready to go and the preparations went well.
"There is not one excuse I can pull out.
"He was a tough kid, he was there to fight but it was a rubbish performance from me, well below par."
