Ovill McKenzie battles to draw with Victor Emilio Ramirez

Ovill McKenzie stunned Argentina's Victor Emilio Ramirez by claiming an unlikely draw in Buenos Aires.

The 35-year-old (25-12-1) only had 11 days' notice before heading to the capital of Argentina to take on hometown champion Ramirez (22-2-1) for the IBF cruiserweight title.

McKenzie, who became Prizefighter champion in 2009 after a similarly short turnaround, promised he would be unfazed after being drafted in so late and he meant it.

The Jamaican-born hard-hitter, known as The Upsetter, flew out of the traps, unleashing a series of jabs and caught Ramirez with his first big overhand right in the second round.

Ramirez composed himself and came back strongly, tagging McKenzie a few times in the fourth, but the Briton refused to go away and kept on jabbing, even after the two-time world champion tested him with a big straight right in the sixth.

McKenzie began to show signs of fatigue in the eighth, which encouraged Ramirez to drive forwards, but the Derby-based fighter rallied to hold his own for the remaining four rounds and take it through to the scorecards.
