16 July 1984 A British Medical Association member wants the sport banned even if his organisation is accused of acting like ‘big nanny’ ‘Just who the hell do the BMA think they are, setting themselves up as decision-makers of what people do or should not do in their spare time?’That was the reported immediate reaction of the British Boxing Board of Control on the day this month at Manchester when the annual representative meeting of the BMA (the ‘Doctors’ parliament’) resolved that in accepting the report of its own board of science on boxing, the association be asked to organise a campaign to influence public opinion to ultimately ban boxing.
