Sykes takes British title victory
Dewsbury's Gary Sykes claimed the vacant British super-featherweight title with a unanimous points win over Andy Morris, 26, in Huddersfield.Former Commonwealth bronze medallist Morris stepped in after the withdrawal of Sykes's original opponent, Ricky Burns, to produce a thrilling contest.
But Sykes, also 26, took his record to 15-0 after a 115-114, 115-114, 116-113 verdict in his favour.
"It was a real close decision and a tough night for me," Sykes admitted.
On the undercard, giant heavyweight Tyson Fury, 21, quickly despatched German Hans-Joerg Blasko after two minutes and 14 seconds in round one.
Fury, took his record to 10-0 and is now set for a rematch with John McDermott, the fighter he beat over 10 rounds in an English title clash in Brentwood last September.
