Savannah Marshall could target a rematch with double Olympic champion Claressa Shields after leaving the GB Boxing programme with immediate effect.
The Hartlepool 25-year-old is expected to follow her former GB team-mate Nicola Adams into the professional ranks with a high-profile clash with Shields the obvious target.
The brash and confident Shields became the first female boxer in history to top a professional bill on prime-time US television when she thumped out Szilvia Szabados in Detroit earlier this month.
But Shields will need no reminding that the only defeat of her career to date remains her 14-8 reversal to Marshall at the 2012 World Championships in China, which Marshall went on to win.
Marshall's final fight in a GB vest was a disappointing points defeat to Holland's Nouchka Fontijn in the women's middleweight quarter-finals at the Rio Olympics.
GB performance director Rob McCracken said: "Savannah has been with the squad since the women's programme began in 2010 and has made a fantastic contribution to both GB Boxing and the sport of women's boxing as a whole.
"She was the first ever female boxer to win a world championship (in 2012) and can be proud of her achievements over the last six years."
