Savannah Marshall has become the 10th British boxer to qualify for the Rio Olympics after winning her quarter-final bout at the World Championships in Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

The Hartlepool 25-year-old outpointed Chinese third seed Li Qian to confirm her place for this summer's Games as well as guaranteeing the second world medal of her career.

With the pressure of qualification off her back, middleweight Marshall will next face Holland's Nouchka Fontijn for a place in the world final on Thursday.

Ireland's Katie Taylor will also defend her Olympic title in Rio after victory over Mexico's Victoria Torres in their middleweight quarter-final.

Taylor, who is in the hunt for her sixth world crown, tweeted: "Honored to be representing Ireland in another Olympics. It really is a dream come true. The support has been incredible!"

Nicola Adams kept on track for the first world gold of her career as she squeezed through against Yu-Ting Lin of Chinese Taipei in their flyweight bout.

Adams, who has already qualified for the Olympics, was made to work by her more inexperienced foe and dropped both the first and third rounds on the judges' cards.

However, a strong finish saw Adams through to the last four where she will face home favourite Ahaina Shekerbekova on Thursday.

Great Britain's Sandy Ryan missed out on a world medal in the non-Olympic light-welterweight division as she dropped a unanimous decision to China's Wenlu Yang.
