Dirrell wins on Abraham DQ
Slick American Andre Dirrell kept his Super Six tournament hopes alive as he upset Arthur Abraham on a disqualification in the 11th round at the Joe Louis Arena in his hometown of Detroit.
Dirrell (19-1), who lost his tournament opener to Britain's Carl Froch in December, was heavily criticised for his passive performance that night but showcased his undoubted talent with a performance which totally outfoxed the technically gifted Abraham.
He now faces American compatriot Andre Ward in his third and final group phase showdown, with Abraham facing Froch later this year.
Dirrell appeared to be comfortably winning the fight when Abraham committed an intentional foul in the 11th round, leading to his first loss in 31 career fights.
Dirrell slipped after being caught by a glancing blow from Abraham, who then struck his opponent while he was kneeling on the canvas.
