Froch fired up for Abraham clash

Carl Froch insists he will enter the ring for his Super Six clash with Arthur Abraham in Helsinki later this month still feeling like an undefeated fighter despite his loss to Mikkel Kessler last time out.

Froch suffered his first loss of his 27-fight professional career when he dropped a unanimous points verdict to Kessler in Herning and lost his WBC super-middleweight title. But Kessler's subsequent withdrawal from the Super Six competition due to an eye injury has given Froch the chance to win back his old belt against German war-horse Abraham, also rebounding from his first loss to Andre Dirrell in March.

Froch said: "I did enough to win that fight against Kessler so I don't feel like a loser. And justice has been done because I am fighting for my old title in my next fight. It feels like I am defending the title."

He added: "I don't feel the Kessler fight was a bad enough loss to take away my confidence or make me feel like I'd been beaten or outclassed. I lost a very, very close fight and most people I've spoken to since said I should have won.

"I flew in way too late for the fight because of the (volcanic) ash cloud and I thought the fight had been cancelled. Mentally I switched off. But this time I will leave nothing to chance and I will be in Finland for at least a week beforehand."

Froch has increased his sparring for his clash with Abraham, veteran of some titanic struggles against the likes of Edison Miranda and Jermain Taylor, and the former holder of the IBF middleweight crown.

"I've prepared meticulously for this fight," said Froch. "I've done nearly 200 rounds of sparring but in terms of the Kessler fight I've not done anything too different because quite frankly I don't think I lost.

"This fight has the potential to be one of the best of the decade based on the fact that me and Arthur are both coming to win, we're both big punchers and we're both very, very tough men."
