Munroe ready for the rounds of his life

Rendall Munroe admits winning his WBC super-bantamweight title final eliminator on Friday night would give him the chance to fulfil a childhood dream and join the greatest names in British boxing history.

Munroe will come up against Mexico's Victor Terrazas at a near-capacity Coventry Skydome. The winner will get a world title shot at Japan's Toshiaki Nishioka and Munroe, European super-bantamweight champion, is determined to make sure it is he who emerges victorious from what is his biggest fight to date.

He told Press Association Sport: "When you become a world champion then you become a great name. As a young boy you dream of becoming a world champion, every time you get in the ring you want to be a world champion. Every fight for me is a world title fight until I've got that belt around my waist."

"I don't disrespect or underestimate anybody. I go out there with the intention to win and the heart to win."

He added: "I'm ready. It's another stepping stone for me, it's another step on the ladder I've got to climb. Come Friday, I'll show why I think I'm the next world champion."

The 29-year-old southpaw is as humble a boxer as you are ever likely to meet and the combination of his daily bin round and his potential rise to world champion status is a truly remarkable story.

Munroe has been training for the past two months and been given the last six weeks off work to hone his skills.

He said: "It's a fairytale but doing that job is what got me here. It's just me, I enjoy it. I enjoy my job and I like it.

If Munroe's rise to the top is a remarkable tale then so are Terrazas' efforts just to get to England for what is his first bout outside Mexico.

Due to the ash cloud covering Britain's airspace 'The Viking' was forced to fly to Madrid before travelling by land and sea to finally arrive in Coventry on Monday evening - an arduous journey that took a total of four days. Terrazas said: "It hasn't affected me at all. I'm very confident ahead of the fight and I'm ready to win."
