Munroe too strong for Terrazas
Rendall Munroe continued his fairytale rise to boxing's summit by stopping Mexican Victor Terrazas in the ninth round of their WBC super-bantamweight title eliminator at the Coventry Skydome on Friday night.
Nicknamed 'the boxing binman' due to his day job in hometown Leicester, Munroe will now fight Japan's Toshiaki Nishioka for the world title and the chance to fulfil a childhood dream.
The 29-year-old delivered a flurry of body blows followed by a huge left to the midriff which sent Terrazas to the floor, and he was subsequently deemed unfit to continue with 57 seconds gone in the ninth.
An emotional Munroe was left celebrating victory in the fight of his life having shown all his guts to come back from some tough early rounds to really the boss the fight.
Two of the three judges had the scores level when the fight was ended, although one had it 79-73 in Rendall's favour.
Speaking after the fight, Munroe said: "We've been working on a few things in the gym and it all came together.
"Everyone knows I'm like a steam train, you need to chuck a bit of coal in but I keep chugging through."
