Murray targets British title belt

St Helens boxer Martin Murray says he is not taking Nick Blackwell lightly ahead of their fight for the vacant British middleweight title.Murray, 28, will also defend his Comonwealth and WBA inter-continental belts against his less experienced opponent in Wigan on Saturday. "People keep saying 'you're going to do this'," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "But boxing is boxing and anything can happen. It only takes one punch so I'm going to be on top of my game." Murray has been working towards this opportunity for the last couple of years and now it has arrived he says he is ready to grab it with both hands. "I train for every fight like it's a world title fight and I'm making no exception for him [Blackwell]," he said. "I've got everything to lose by fighting this lad. "He's going to come into the ring with a winning attitude so two British lads fighting for a British title is going to make for an interesting fight." Should Murray win the British title, his attention will then turn towards the world scene. He is currently ranked number five by the WBA and he hopes a crack at world honours is not too far away. "You never know a champion might look at me and they might think 'we'll take a chance on him, he's not so much of a puncher'," he said. "People might look at me and think that they'll beat me but when they get in the ring with me they soon find out it's a different story."
