Williams considers action over arrest
British heavyweight champion Danny Williams is considering taking legal action against City of London Police after being arrested last month.
Williams, 36, recently pulled out of Saturday's title defence against Derek Chisora, initially citing a viral infection. Williams' has since revealed the decision was actually prompted by "the stress" caused by his arrest on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, for which he has since been cleared.
Eddie Parladorio, of Mel Goldberg Law, said in a statement: "Danny Williams is extremely disappointed with the way he was treated on the evening in question and has consulted his lawyers with a view to taking whatever action is necessary and appropriate in relation to that."
Williams, who famously knocked out Mike Tyson in 2004, was taken into custody on January 22 while driving a car he had recently bought.
However, the fighter was released on bail after a matter of hours pending further enquiries which have since been dropped.
The fighter is considering legal action against City of London Police.
Williams had planned to retire after the Wembley Arena fight, and is expected to fight Sam Sexton - who he had originally been scheduled to meet tomorrow before the Norwich man suffered an injury - in the future.
The fighter said: "It's unbelievable. I've never been in trouble with the police before and I was wrongfully arrested. I didn't want it to come out.
"It's the reason I pulled out of the fight, the stress of it."
Williams added: "I'm quite upset with what's happened so I've taken it up with my lawyers."
